Hindsight is a jazz composition written by pianist Cedar Walton. It was first released in 1981 by a quartet with Junior Cook, Cedar Walton, Billy Higgins and Buster Williams. The tune is a mid tempo swing piece rooted in bluesy hard bop and follows an AABA form that highlights tight piano, bass, and drum interplay. It has become a jazz standard and has been recorded by artists such as Timeless All Stars (1983), Vincent Herring (1991), and Kenny Barron Quintet (1991). Walton later included Hindsight on his 1996 album Seasoned Wood, helping the tune reach new generations of players. Contemporary performances, including Emmet Cohen with Jeremy Pelt, continue to keep the piece alive.
