Hocus-Pocus is a jazz tune written by Lee Morgan for his 1964 Blue Note album The Sidewinder. It was recorded in 1963 and appears on the album as a swinging 4/4 piece in F major, roughly at 186 to 188 bpm. The track features Morgan on trumpet with Joe Henderson on tenor sax and Barry Harris on piano, each delivering concise swinging solos. The form is a 32-bar AABA based on the changes of Mean To Me, with a slight difference noted by Harris. The Sidewinder also features a tight rhythm section with Bob Cranshaw on bass and Billy Higgins on drums, making Hocus-Pocus a classic example of 1960s Blue Note hard bop.
