Holy Land is a jazz composition written by pianist Cedar Walton in 1967. It was first released as an instrumental by David Newman in 1967. Since then it has become a jazz standard with numerous interpretations, including Houston Person (1968), the Cedar Walton Trio (live in 1973), Milt Jackson (1991), and many others. The tune is typically performed in hard bop and post-bop styles, often as a small-ensemble or piano-trio piece. A related piece, Song for a Holy Land, appeared in 1999 with Walton teaming up with John Hackett and Paula Hackett. Ben Markley later arranged Holy Land for big band in 2014.
