How Are Things in Glocca Morra? is a popular Broadway show tune from Finian’s Rainbow. The music was written by Burton Lane with lyrics by E. Y. Harburg. It was published in 1946 and introduced in the 1947 Broadway production by Ella Logan, with the original cast recording released on Columbia as part of the Finian’s Rainbow album. The song tells of a fictional Irish village named Glocca Morra and expresses nostalgia and homesickness; there is no real Glocca Morra in Ireland. Lane invented the name and Harburg liked it but changed the line to “How are things in Glocca Morra?” for a more personal touch. It has been widely recorded since 1946–47 and has also been arranged for wind band by Erik Leidzen; the piece remains a staple of musical theatre repertoire.
