How Insensitive is the English version of the Brazilian bossa nova standard Insensatez, composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim with Portuguese lyrics by Vinícius de Moraes and English lyrics by Norman Gimbel. It was released in 1963 on the album The Composer of Desafinado Plays and is a staple of the bossa nova and jazz genres. The song tells a story of heartbreak and emotional detachment, with a mood of longing and a melody whose opening has been said to resemble Chopin's Prelude in E minor. The original recording is by Jobim for Verve, and the tune has been covered by a wide range of artists from Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee to Stan Getz and Diana Krall. In 1994 Jobim recorded it again with Sting on the album Antônio Brasileiro.
