I Saw Her Standing There is a 1963 rock and roll song by the English band the Beatles, written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon and produced by George Martin. It opens the UK debut album Please Please Me (1963) and also appears on the band’s first US album Introducing... The Beatles. Recorded at EMI Studios in London on February 11, 1963, the track features a lively count-in and a bass riff borrowed from Chuck Berry’s Talkin’ About You; the original title was Seventeen. In December 1963 Capitol released it in the United States as the B-side to I Want to Hold Your Hand, and the A-side topped the US charts for seven weeks in early 1964 while the song reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. The UK version runs about 2:55 and the US version about 2:50. Rolling Stone ranked it No. 139 on its 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list in 2004, and it remains a staple of Beatles live performances.
