I Wish You Love is the English version of the French standard Que reste-t-il de nos amours? with music by Léo Chauliac and Charles Trenet and lyrics by Trenet. The tune originated in France and was first released in February 1943 by Roland Gerbeau, with Trenet recording his own version later that year and Lucienne Boyer releasing a 1944 single. The English adaptation, with lyrics by Albert Askew Beach, opens with “I wish you bluebirds in the spring” and was popularized in 1957 by Keely Smith on her debut album I Wish You Love. Since then it has become a jazz and pop standard with numerous covers by artists such as Gloria Lynne, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Barbra Streisand, and it has appeared in films such as Stolen Kisses.
