Idle Moments is a jazz tune written by Duke Pearson and performed by Grant Green on his 1965 album Idle Moments. The title track is a slow, nearly 15-minute piece in C minor that opens the session featuring Joe Henderson on tenor sax, Bobby Hutcherson on vibraphone, Duke Pearson on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass, and Al Harewood on drums. The album Idle Moments was recorded on November 4 and 15, 1963 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey and released in February 1965 on Blue Note, produced by Alfred Lion. The record sits in the hard bop and soul jazz vein, showcasing Green’s lyrical guitar with an intimate, graceful ensemble blend. Because the title track was so long, the producers allowed the first take to stand, while two other tracks were shortened for the LP; longer versions appear on CD reissues. In 2021 Blue Note issued a remastered Classic Vinyl reissue, preserving Kevin Gray’s mastering from the original tapes.
