I'm Glad There Is You is a 1941 jazz and pop standard written by Jimmy Dorsey and Paul Madeira (also credited as Paul Mertz). The original recording was by Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra with Bob Eberly on vocals, made in New York City on December 22, 1941, and released by Decca in 1942 with Tomorrow's Sunrise on the flip side. The lyric is a thoughtful love ballad that treats the subject with philosophical nuance rather than simple moonlight imagery. A 1946 Decca re-recording with Dee Parker on vocals was released with Ain't Misbehavin on the B side. The tune has been covered by many artists including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Chet Baker and Johnny Mathis, and it has become a jazz and pop standard. It was not originally issued on an album, but later appeared on compilations such as 100 Swing Jazz Classics and Jazz Compilation, Vol. 1.
