"In a Shanty in Old Shanty Town" is a popular song written by Ira Schuster and Jack Little with lyrics by Joe Young, published in 1932. It was introduced by Ted Lewis and His Band in the 1932 film The Crooner and released as a single, where it climbed to number 1 and stayed there for ten weeks. The tune became a pop standard and saw later charting versions, including Johnny Long and His Orchestra's million-seller in 1946 (a revised take on their 1940 version) that reached number 13, and Somethin' Smith and the Redheads reaching number 27 in 1956. Jerry Lee Lewis also recorded a version in 1958/1959. Some credits list Ira Schuster under the alias John Siras, and the song has appeared in stock dance-band arrangements published by M. Witmark & Sons.
