In My Life is a Beatles song from the 1965 album Rubber Soul. Credited to Lennon–McCartney, the lyrics are largely John Lennon’s reminiscences about his life, with a later dispute over who wrote the melody. Recorded at EMI Studios in London on October 18 and 22, 1965 and released December 3, 1965, the track was produced by George Martin, who also plays a Bach-inspired Baroque piano solo. Musically it blends soft rock and pop rock with baroque pop influences. The song is widely acclaimed and has appeared high on lists of the greatest songs, including Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and Mojo’s best song of all time, and it helped popularize harpsichord-like textures in pop music. A Portuguese version titled Minha Vida was recorded by Rita Lee for Espelho da Vida, and the song has been covered by others such as Matthew Scannell for the film Little Manhattan.
