Insensatez is a 1961 bossa nova standard composed by Tom Jobim with lyrics by Vinícius de Moraes. It is one of the best known songs from the Jobim-Moraes partnership, and its piano lines echo Chopin's Prelude No. 4 in E minor, Op. 28. The tune was first recorded by João Gilberto on his 1961 album João Gilberto, and has since been performed by many Brazilian artists such as Nara Leão, Elis Regina, Sylvia Telles, Maria Creuza, Roberto Carlos, and Fernanda Takai. The English version, How Insensitive, with lyrics by Norman Gimbel, achieved international fame and has been recorded by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Nancy Wilson, Morgana King, Stan Getz, Sinéad O'Connor, Claudine Longet, Wes Montgomery, Astrud Gilberto, Diana Krall, and Iggy Pop. It has appeared on film soundtracks including Seven Pounds and Lost Highway, and Pat Metheny has a version on the live DVD from New Brunswick accompanying the album Secret Story.
