Israel is a jazz composition by John Carisi that has become a standard. Described as a minor blues, it was originally recorded in 1949 by Miles Davis as part of the Birth of the Cool sessions. It is noted as an early use of the perfect fourth interval, arpeggiating a pair of ascending fourths at measures 9-10. The tune later became closely associated with Bill Evans and appears on several Bill Evans Trio recordings. Gerry Mulligan rearranged and recorded it with his Concert Jazz Band for the 1961 album Gerry Mulligan Presents a Concert in Jazz. Carisi is credited with rearranging the tune especially for Mulligan to make the recording. The piece is categorized as a jazz composition in D minor.
