Jordu is a jazz standard composed by Duke Jordan in 1953. It was popularized by Clifford Brown and Max Roach in 1954 and has since been recorded by many great players. The tune is a hard bop piece in AABA form with a distinctive two‑measure pickup in the A section and a B section built on dominant seventh chords, ending with a vamp on the return to A. The Duke Jordan Trio recorded its first appearance in New York on January 28, 1954, under the original title Minor Escamp. Early notable versions include Roy Haynes with Minor Encamp, and later renditions by Stan Getz, Chet Baker, and Dizzy Gillespie. Floyd Cramer released an organ version in 1962 on Floyd Cramer Gets Organized. Lyrics were later added by Karrin Allyson as Life is a groove on her 2006 Footprints album as a duet with Nancy King, and an earlier vocal version by Ann Richards appeared as Where Did You Go? on The Many Moods of Ann Richards in 1960.
