Just A-Sittin' and A-Rockin' is a 1941 jazz standard written by Billy Strayhorn and Lee Gaines, with Duke Ellington and his orchestra closely associated with its origins. The tune became a staple of the big band era and has been widely recorded in the jazz vocal and instrumental repertoire. Notable versions include Ella Fitzgerald on the 1958 Duke Ellington Song Book; June Christy on Recalls Those Kenton Days (1959); Stan Kenton on On AFRS: 1944-45 (2006) with Christy; and The Delta Rhythm Boys, whose December 1945 release reached #17 on the charts. It remains a recognized Duke Ellington composition and a classic 1940s jazz standard.
