Keep on the Sunny Side is a 1899 American gospel-tinged folk song with lyrics by Ada Blenkhorn and music by J. Howard Entwisle. It was inspired by a phrase from Blenkhorn’s nephew who wanted his wheelchair pushed down the sunny side of the street. The Carter Family popularized it with a 1928 Camden, New Jersey recording and it became their radio theme song. The tune has appeared on several albums including a 1964 Carter Family Keep on the Sunny Side, and Johnny Cash's 1974 version on The Junkie and the Juicehead Minus Me with June Carter Cash and others; a 2000 recording by The Whites features in the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? A variant Stay on the Sunny Side is sometimes sung as a campfire song. A.P. Carter's tombstone bears a gold record of the song as a notable honor.
