Oh, Lady Be Good! is a 1924 song by George and Ira Gershwin that served as a show tune in the Broadway musical Lady, Be Good! It was introduced by Walter Catlett, with Fred and Adele Astaire in the show. The tune quickly entered the jazz repertoire, with early 1925 recordings by Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra, Carl Fenton, and Cliff Edwards. It also appears in the 1941 film Lady Be Good, performed by the chorus, though the movie is not connected to the stage musical. A landmark 1947 recording by Ella Fitzgerald is noted for her scat solo, and she later sang it as a ballad on Ella Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Song Book (1959), arranged by Nelson Riddle. Today it is regarded as a 1920s jazz standard frequently performed in swing and vocal interpretations.
