Let's Get Lost is a jazz standard written by Jimmy McHugh with lyrics by Frank Loesser. It first appeared in the 1943 film Happy Go Lucky, where it was performed by Mary Martin. The song was published by Famous Music and quickly released in several 1943 recordings, including Vaughn Monroe and his orchestra, Jimmy Dorsey, Teddy Powell with Peggy Mann, and Kay Kyser. It was described at the time as a light love ballad with an infectious lilt and became a popular juke box and radio tune. In 1955 jazz trumpeter Chet Baker opened his album Lets Get Lost with the tune, a version many consider the definitive reading. Baker’s performances helped spread the song to new audiences, and it later lent its name to a 1988 documentary about his life. The tune has since been covered by many musicians and remains a staple of the jazz repertoire.
