Lily of the Valley is a traditional American reel from the United States, classified in The Traditional Tune Archive as an Old-Time tune. It is played in 2/4 time in the key of D, typical of single or double reels, and follows an AABB structure. The composer and year of origin are not known, as it is a traditional piece without a single author or release. A Liz Slade transcription, edited by Andrew Kuntz, is available as sheet music. Note that there is also a separate gospel hymn called Lily of the Valley by Harry Dixon Loes, widely used in New Orleans gospel contexts; that song is not the same as this instrumental reel.
