Lonnie's Lament is a John Coltrane composition performed by the John Coltrane Quartet on Crescent, Coltrane's 1964 studio album. The album was released in July 1964 and recorded at Van Gelder Studio, blending avant-garde jazz, post-bop and modal jazz. Lonnie's Lament appears on side two as a long, melodic ballad featuring a prominent bass solo by Jimmy Garrison, with sparse support from Coltrane and Elvin Jones. The tune is a modal piece with a complex V progression that allows for extended improvisation, and it is noted for its lyrical mood and the trio of Coltrane’s guiding ideas along with Garrison and Jones. An earlier version of Lonnie's Lament appears on Afro-Blue Impressions, and the piece is often described as having Japanese influences in its atmosphere.
