Love Is the Sweetest Thing is a 1932 popular song written by British bandleader Ray Noble. It was recorded by Ray Noble and His New Mayfair Dance Orchestra with Al Bowlly on vocal and released as a single in 1933. The tune is built in a 32-bar A-A-B-A form with introductory verses that are often omitted in later performances. It became a major cross-Atlantic hit and helped establish Noble’s first American success. Over the years it has been recorded by many artists, including Jack Hylton, Hal Kemp, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, and Mary Hopkin. Mary Hopkin’s 1969 cover appears on the Post Card album, produced by Paul McCartney.
