Mademoiselle chante le blues is a 1987 pop song by French singer Patricia Kaas, the first single from her debut album Mademoiselle chante... where it appears as track nine. It was released in November 1987 and recorded that year at Studio CBE in Paris. The song was written by Didier Barbelivien and Bob Mehdi, produced by Joël Cartigny, with Bernard Estardy on arrangements, and lasts about 3 minutes and 48 seconds. The title translates to Mademoiselle Sings the Blues and may reference Billie Holiday's Lady Sings the Blues. It became Kaas’s first major hit, reaching the top ten in France (peaking at number seven) and earning a Silver certification; it also charted in Europe, reaching number 24 on the European Hot 100. After the earlier single Jalouse, Barbelivien helped shape the debut album, and this track has become one of Kaas’s emblematic songs. Kaas performed it on tours in 1991, 1994, 1998 and 2005, and it features on several live albums and compilations. The B-side of the single is Patricia voudrait bien.
