Mambembe is a song by Chico Buarque, written for the 1972 film Quando o Carnaval Chegar directed by Cacá Diegues. In MPB style, the lyrics tell of a wandering mambembe—a street performer who sings from the stage to the streets, under bridges, and in the eyes of the people, proclaiming that this world is all his. It was released in 1972 on the film’s soundtrack, and Chico later recorded a Spanish version in 1982 on Chico en Español. The track has also been performed in live sets such as Carioca ao Vivo (2007) and Caravanas ao Vivo (2018). Genre: MPB / Brazilian pop.
