Manoir de mes rêves, or Django’s Castle, is a gypsy jazz composition by Django Reinhardt. The original recording dates from the late 1940s, with a 1949 transcription often cited. It was later arranged for a bigger group by Bob Brookmeyer and appeared on Gerry Mulligan’s first Concert Jazz Band album. The original parts had no written drums, and there is no drum part on the historical recording, though an optional drum part has been included in some scores. The tune’s title evokes a dreamlike manor, and the piece showcases Reinhardt’s lyrical guitar within a swinging jazz context. A beloved staple of gypsy jazz repertoire and jazz ensemble literature.
