Minoat is an original jazz composition by Mal Waldron and the opening track on his 1978 studio album Moods. The piece lasts 8 minutes and 11 seconds and features Waldron’s expressive piano with a guest front line on tracks 1–3 including Terumasa Hino on trumpet, Steve Lacy on soprano sax, and Hermann Breuer on trombone, with Cameron Brown on bass and Makaya Ntshoko on drums. Moods was recorded on May 6 and 8, 1978, at Tonstudio Bauer in Ludwigsburg, West Germany, and released by Enja Records later that year. The album sits in the jazz genre with a late 1970s thoughtful and exploratory mood. The release was originally issued as a double LP, and some CD reissues altered the running order and omitted certain piano solos, with later editions reinstating some pieces.
