Minuano (Six-Eight) is a Pat Metheny Group composition from the 1987 album Still Life (Talking). It began as a short 16-bar 6/8 idea that Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays expanded into a nine-minute suite with a sultry intro, lush textures, and a brass counterpoint that returns the music to the reprise. The piece blends a Latin-tinged 6/8 feel with moments that move into and out of 3/4, exemplifying the group’s jazz fusion style. The studio recording helped cement Minuano as one of the group’s signature works, and it has been performed live—including a remastered Jazzfest Wien 1991 rendition. A big-band arrangement by Bob Curnow highlights the tune’s versatility beyond the original Pat Metheny Group lineup.
