Moonglow is a 1933 popular song and jazz standard composed by Will Hudson and Irving Mills with lyrics by Eddie DeLange. The original recording was by Joe Venuti and His Orchestra in 1933, released as a single from the album Joe Venuti & His Orchestra. It is a 32-bar AABA tune in 4/4 time with a slow foxtrot feel - often played in the key of G in modern fake books though it may have originally been in C - featuring a distinctive riff and ascending harmonic movement. It became a standard with early 1934 recordings by Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Benny Goodman, Ethel Waters and Art Tatum, and the Benny Goodman Quartet version in 1936 is particularly famous. It has been recorded by many artists including Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Artie Shaw, Harry James and The Coasters, and has appeared in films and TV such as The Aviator, Twilight Zone, Caddyshack, and the 2013 film 42.
