Morning is a Latin Jazz standard written by American pianist Clare Fischer. It first appeared on his 1965 album Manteca! released by Pacific Jazz, Fischer's first recording conceived entirely in Afro-Cuban idiom. The tune blends guajira, Afro-Cuban jazz, and cha-cha-chá, and runs about 4 minutes in a classic 32-bar A-A-B-A form. A notable detour on the original recording pays homage to Stravinsky's Rite of Spring during a trombone solo. Lyrics were added later; José José issued a Spanish version Una Mañana in 1969, and Fischer's own Spanish-English lyrics surfaced in 1981 on Clare Fischer & Salsa Picante Present 2+2, since then recorded by several artists. Morning has become Fischer's most famous cha-cha-chá and a staple of the Latin jazz repertoire, with subsequent recordings by Cal Tjader, Poncho Sanchez, Roseanna Vitro and others.
