Mr. P.C. is a twelve-bar minor blues jazz piece written by John Coltrane in 1959. It first appeared on the Atlantic album Giant Steps, released in 1960 and recorded in May 1959. The tune is named in tribute to Coltrane's longtime bassist Paul Chambers. It is performed with a fast swing feel and sits in C minor with a compact 12-bar progression. Some scholars note a melodic link to the 1931 song Shadrack by Robert MacGimsey, a melody with older roots. Over the years Mr. P.C. has been covered by artists including Lambert, Hendricks & Ross and the Derek Trucks Band, underscoring its status as a jazz standard.
