My Cherie Amour is a 1969 soul-pop ballad by Stevie Wonder, from the album My Cherie Amour. The song was co-written by Wonder, Sylvia Moy, and Henry Cosby, produced by Cosby, and recorded at Hitsville U.S.A. in Detroit between 1967 and 1968. It began life as the B-side to I Don’t Know Why, released January 28, 1969, but radio play helped it become the A-side and it peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the US R&B chart, with a similar peak of number 4 in the UK. The title blends English and French and was inspired by Wonder’s girlfriend at the Michigan School for the Blind; the album of the same name followed on August 29, 1969. The track is known for its haunting ballad feel with a light Latin underbeat, and there are Spanish and Italian versions and later samples and references in pop culture.
