My Favorite Things is a show tune from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music. It was introduced on Broadway by Mary Martin as Maria and Patricia Neway as Mother Abbess. The song, with its list of cozy winter images—kettles, warm mittens, packages, sleigh bells, kittens, snowflakes, and silver white winters—has become a holiday staple on radio and in advertising. It first appeared on the 1959 original Broadway cast recording, and Julie Andrews later sang it in the 1965 film adaptation. Notable versions include John Coltrane’s landmark 1961 jazz rendition, the Supremes’ Christmas-era cover, and other artists such as Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Kenny Rogers, Lorrie Morgan, and even Ariana Grande who interpolates its melody in 7 Rings.
