My Funny Valentine is a show tune from Rodgers & Hart's 1937 musical Babes in Arms - it was introduced on Broadway by Mitzi Green. The song, a slow ballad that moves between minor and major keys, uses playful yet affectionate lyrics to describe a charming but flawed Valentine and ends by saying the singer wouldn’t want them to change. It quickly became a jazz and traditional pop standard, appearing on more than 1300 albums by over 600 artists - notable versions include Chet Baker’s 1950s treatment that helped define his style, as well as Frank Sinatra’s 1950s recording. The tune remains tied to the original Babes in Arms context while also living on in many cast and studio albums, such as the 1999 New York Cast Recording of Babes in Arms.
