My One and Only Love is a 1953 popular jazz ballad with music by Guy Wood and lyrics by Robert Mellin. It began life in 1947 as Music from Beyond the Moon, with Vic Damone recording it that year as a B-side, but the song did not take off until Mellin rewrote the lyrics and it was published in 1953 under the new title. The tune became a jazz standard after Frank Sinatra recorded it in 1953 with Nelson Riddle, released as the B-side to Ive Got the World on a String on Capitol Records. It is a conventional 32‑bar AABA ballad in the key of C, with an aria‑like melody that ranges from G below middle C to the second D above middle C. Notable instrumental renditions include Charlie Ventura (1953), Ben Webster with Art Tatum (1956), and John Coltrane with Johnny Hartman (1963); vocal versions have been performed by Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Mathis, Doris Day and many others.
