Never Will I Marry is a song written by Frank Loesser for the 1960 Broadway musical Greenwillow. The lyric tells of a family curse in which the eldest Briggs men must wander, prompting a vow never to marry so as not to burden those left behind. The piece was introduced by Anthony Perkins in the 1960 Broadway production, and the first release appeared that year on the Greenwillow cast album. The first known recording was Cannonball Adderley with The Poll-Winners (Ray Brown and Wes Montgomery) in 1960. Over the years it has become a jazz standard with many notable versions, including Nancy Wilson with Cannonball Adderley (1962), Vic Damone, Barbra Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, and Judy Garland. The current publisher is Frank Music Corp, and the tune is commonly performed as a Broadway show tune with strong jazz inflections.
