Nikita is a 1985 soft rock/new wave ballad by Elton John from his nineteenth studio album Ice on Fire. It was released as the lead single on 4 October 1985 and features George Michael on backing vocals and Nik Kershaw on guitar. The lyrics describe Elton John's crush on Nikita, a Berlin Wall border guard at East Germany whom he cannot meet because he cannot enter East Germany. The video, directed by Ken Russell, features Anya Major as Nikita in a romantic border-crossing scenario. Nikita peaked at UK #3 and US #7, reached the top 10 in eight countries, and a plagiarism claim by Guy Hobbs was dismissed in 2012.
