Nostalgia in Times Square is a jazz composition by Charles Mingus written for the 1959 John Cassavetes film Shadows. Mingus recorded the piece for Jazz Portraits: Mingus in Wonderland (1959) and later reprised it as "Strollin'" with vocals on Mingus Dynasty. The tune became the title track of Jemeel Moondoc's 1986 studio album Nostalgia in Times Square, released on the Soul Note label and recorded November 24, 1985 in Brooklyn. Moondoc leads a quintet with Bern Nix on guitar, Rahn Burton on piano, William Parker on bass and Denis Charles on drums; this is Moondoc's first date with piano since his 1977 debut Muntu's First Feeding. The track is a medium-tempo blues in a modern jazz idiom, and the album as a whole is noted for its swinging yet forward-looking approach within the jazz tradition.
