Nostalgias is a tango from 1936 written by Juan Carlos Cobián with lyrics by Enrique Cadícamo. The original recording and release were by Charlo with guitar accompaniment in Buenos Aires, on October 14, 1936 for Odeon. The lyrics describe a heartbroken narrator who wants to drink to forget a mad love and erase old kisses, singing of longing and memory, with the refrain that culminates in the iconic line "Desde mi triste soledad veré caer las rosas muertas de mi juventud." Musically, the piece is noted for its complexity and its break with some tango norms, making it a challenge for singers. Since its debut, Nostalgias has become a tango standard with many versions, including early 1937 recordings by Francisco Lomuto and Hugo del Carril, and later performances by Sexteto Mayor and numerous artists. It remains a landmark of 1930s Argentine tango.
