O Que Será (À Flor da Terra) is a 1976 MPB song written by Chico Buarque and performed as a duet with Milton Nascimento. It was written for the Bruno Barreto film Dona Flor e Seus Dois Maridos, based on Jorge Amado’s novel, and appears on Chico Buarque’s Meus Caros Amigos (1976) as O Que Será? (À Flor da Terra). Milton Nascimento also released a version called O Que Será? (À Flor da Pele) on his album Geraes in 1976, and the song exists in three film versions that mark different moments of the story. The spontaneous collaboration between Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento began after they heard Francis Hime play in the studio. The track is known for its poetic exploration of desire and social imagery, and its genre is MPB.
