On a Misty Night is a jazz standard composed by Tadd Dameron in 1956. It was first recorded by Dameron with John Coltrane in 1956-57 and is often described as a contrafact of September in the Rain, using the same chord changes with a new melody. The tune became a staple in jazz repertoires and has been covered by many artists. The Junior Cook Quartet recorded a studio album titled On a Misty Night, released in 1990 on SteepleChase, after being recorded in June 1989 in New York City, and the album sits in the straight-ahead jazz genre. The title track features Junior Cook on tenor sax, Mickey Tucker on piano, Walter Booker on bass, and Leroy Williams on drums, and runs about six minutes.
