Parisian Thoroughfare is a jazz standard composed by pianist Bud Powell in 1951. It is a contrafact of Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea and is sometimes listed as Parisienne Thorofare. Powell first recorded it in February 1951 for Clef Records, but the version under its final title was recorded on May 1, 1951 at WOR Studios in New York City for Blue Note, and appears on The Amazing Bud Powell, Vol. 1. The tune is a brisk, bebop influenced piece and has been widely covered, including a 1954 recording on the Clifford Brown & Max Roach album, and later versions by Jacky Terrasson and Tom Harrell on Moon and Sand (1991) and Terrason on Smile (2002). Powell also revisited the track in 1963 in France with Gilbert Rovere and Kansas Fields.
