Passion Dance is a jazz tune composed by McCoy Tyner, originally released on his 1967 album The Real McCoy. It showcases Tyner's energetic, percussive piano style with arpeggiated right-hand figures and a driving, modal feel. The melody is built around a two-chord structure with a pedal drone - F in the A-section and Bb in the B-section - and a forward motion that typifies Tyner's Open Form approach. A live version appears on the 1978 Milestone album Passion Dance, recorded July 28, 1978 at Live Under the Sky in Tokyo, mostly solo Tyner with two tracks featuring Ron Carter on bass and Tony Williams on drums. A second album from the same concert, Counterpoints, was released in 2004. Passion Dance remains part of Tyner's jazz legacy and illustrates his influence on post-bop piano.
