Peace is a jazz composition by Horace Silver, first recorded on August 29, 1959, and released on the Blue Note album Blowin' the Blues Away. It is a slow ballad - unusual for Silver - with a ten‑bar form and a relaxed tempo around 50 BPM, and it has become a jazz standard. The tune highlights Silver’s lyrical and motif‑driven writing, using several ii‑V‑I substitutions and moving through multiple key centers before settling in B flat. The original recording features the Horace Silver Quintet with Silver on piano, Junior Cook on tenor sax, Blue Mitchell on trumpet, Gene Taylor on bass, and Louis Hayes on drums. Silver also wrote lyrics for the piece, and a later vocal version with Andy Bey appears on That Healin’ Feelin’ about a decade after the original session.
