Quand refleuriront les lilas blancs, which translates to When the white lilacs bloom again, is the French adaptation of the German melody Wenn der weiße Flieder wieder blüht. The tune was composed by Franz Doelle with later French lyrics by Léo Lelièvre, Henri Varna, and Fernand Rouvray, and the original sheet music appeared around 1929 as a slow fox trot. It has since been performed in various editions, including a 1968 Belgian single by Tino Rossi, illustrating its cross language appeal. In 2014 the piece was recorded as an instrumental violin collaboration on the album Violin & Violinopan, with Jean-Claude Welche and Paul Fricker, a 2:38 rendition that credits Doelle as the composer. The track sits in the fox trot / light chanson tradition and remains a popular example of how a German late 1920s tune traveled into French repertoire and modern instrumental reinterpretations.
