Remember is a nostalgic pop standard written by Irving Berlin and published in 1925. It was first recorded and released in 1925 by Ross Gorman & His Earl Carroll Orchestra. The lyric uses a clever wordplay technique, extending the sound of the word "forgot" into "forget me not" and then placing the original word and its opposite at the end of the next lines. Three versions charted between 1925 and 1926: Jean Goldkette & His Orchestra featuring Seymour Simons reached number six, an Isham Jones instrumental spent a week at number one, and Cliff Edwards peaked at number ten. The tune has appeared in films such as Alexander's Ragtime Band (1938) performed by Alice Faye, Moontide (1942) as an instrumental, So This Is Love (1953) sung by Kathryn Grayson, and There's No Business Like Show Business (1954) in a cast number later sung by Ethel Merman and Dan Dailey. It has been recorded by many artists over the years, including Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra, and Thelonious Monk. There was no single original album release; Remember became a standard covered on numerous albums and film soundtracks.
