Rolling in the Deep is a 2010 single by English singer Adele, from her second studio album 21 (2011). It is the lead single and opening track on the album, written by Adele Adkins and Paul Epworth and produced by Epworth. The track blends rhythm and blues and soul with a dark blues-y gospel disco vibe, and its lyrics express the emotions of a scorned lover after a breakup. It became a global hit, topping charts in twelve countries and reaching the top ten in over twenty, and it marked Adele’s breakthrough in the United States, where it spent seven weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It won the Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Short Form Music Video, and its video earned multiple MTV Video Music Award nominations and wins; Billboard named it the Year-End Hot 100 Number One Single of 2011. By 2019 it had sold over 20 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling digital singles of all time. It has inspired cover versions by artists such as Linkin Park and Aretha Franklin.
