Rosetta is a jazz standard written in 1933 by pianist Earl Hines and his arranger Henri Woode. The original first recording and release were by Earl Hines and His Orchestra with Walter Fuller on the vocal chorus, issued on February 13, 1933. The tune has become a staple of the jazz repertoire and has been recorded and adapted many times, including Marcel Zanini’s French version in 1969. In early 1969 Paul McCartney produced a cover for The Fourmost, released as a 7 inch single Rosetta / Just Like Before on February 21, 1969, with recording at Apple Studios in London. Rosetta is commonly performed in both vocal and instrumental forms and is linked to the broader jazz tradition, including contrafacts like Yardbird Suite.
