Samba De Rei is a Brazilian jazz composition co written by Carlos Pingarilho and Marcos Vasconcellos. It first appeared on Pingarilho's debut album Histórias E Sonhos (Stories and Dreams), released in 2003, with Ithamara Koorax performing on the track. The album was recorded in Rio de Janeiro and New York between 2001 and 2002 and issued by Jazz Station Records, marking Pingarilho’s emergence as a bandleader after forty years as a composer. The tune sits in a jazz and bossa nova frame, showcasing Pingarilho’s and Vasconcellos’s creative collaboration and the album’s diverse guest contributions. There are reports of an earlier 1965 recording of Samba De Rei by Leny Andrade, illustrating the piece’s longer life in Brazilian jazz.
