Scene is an instrumental jazz tune written by Tom Harrell. It first appeared on his 1990 Contemporary Records album Form, a post-bop set that features Joe Lovano on tenor sax, Danilo Perez on piano, Charlie Haden on bass, and Paul Motian on drums. The track, about 5 minutes long, is led by Harrell's lyrical trumpet with engaging dialogue from Lovano and a buoyant ensemble throughout. Form includes other pieces such as Vista, Brazilian Song, January Spring, Rhythm Form and For Heaven's Sake. The piece was produced by Bill Goodwin with Jim Anderson engineering and George Horn mastering. Scene has since been performed by other artists as well, including Frank Haunschild and John Stowell on Listen to This, underscoring its lasting appeal in jazz circles.
