Shout is a 1959 rock and roll song by the Isley Brothers, released as a two part single from the album Shout! on RCA Victor. It was recorded July 29, 1959 in New York City and blends gospel inflections with R&B and rock and roll. The track grew out of live performances with a call-and-response climax that Ronald Isley would improvise during shows, and the producers Hugo & Luigi helped capture a party atmosphere by inviting friends to the studio. Shout became the Isley Brothers’ first chart hit, reaching number 47 on the Billboard Hot 100, and later their first gold single; it also charted in Canada. It was written by O'Kelly Isley Jr., Rudolph Isley, and Ronald Isley and produced by Hugo & Luigi. The tune was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 and was ranked 119 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Its influence extends to covers and versions by other artists, including Lulu’s UK Top 10 hit in 1964.
