So Amazing is a soulful ballad written by Luther Vandross and Marcus Miller. It was first recorded by Dionne Warwick in 1983 for the album How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye, produced by Vandross. Vandross later re-recorded the song for his own album Give Me the Reason (1986) and released it as a single in 1987. Warwick and Vandross had hoped it would be the lead single for Warwick's album, but the label chose the title track instead, prompting Vandross to re-record So Amazing. The Vandross version charted in the UK ( peaked at 33) and on the US R&B chart ( peaked at 94). The tune has been covered many times, including a 1999 performance by Whitney Houston as a tribute to Vandross, and a 2005 Beyoncé and Stevie Wonder duet on the Luther Vandross tribute album So Amazing, which won the Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
